The board contains coloured balls which are moved across the maze under the clear plastic cover using pencils.

These pencils have a magnet in their tip, but are held by the child using the same tripod grasp which they would use to hold a regular pencil.

The magnet-tipped pencils are used to guide the balls through the maze from the start to the finish.
